The Little Songbird
Long ago, in the beginning of
creation
The Lord made the heavens and the
earth
He made Adam and Eve.
And God made all creatures under
the sun.
God made a beautiful place, it
was called the garden of Eden.
It was beautiful and all was
right.
In the garden lived a little
songbird
And from the moment he woke up,
until he went to bed,
the little songbird would sing a
happy song.
Time passed in the garden.
All the other birds would ask the
songbird why he sang.
The little bird replied “ I am
singing to the Lord!”.
“Why?” they asked, “you
don’t have to”.
“It is not that I have to, but
that I want to, for I am happy and thankful”.
The other birds did not
understand.
Why go through all the trouble
when they didn’t have to.
Surely, finding food was more
important.
They thought the little songbird
was odd, but paid him no mind.
In the garden, the Lord would
often walk with Adam and Eve.
The Lord would spend time with
them.
Enjoying each others company.
One day as the Lord was walking
in His garden alone.
He sat by the river and looked at
all He had made and was pleased.
He heard a beautiful song in the
air.
The Lord looked and saw the
little songbird singing.
“Come here little one”, the
Lord called.
The little bird flew and landed
by the Lord.
”Yes Lord!” said the little
bird.
“Why do you sing such a
beautiful song?” asked the Lord.
“I sing to you O Lord, for you
are wonderful.”
The Lord looked at the little
bird with joy.
“Blessed are you little bird,
for you bring me joy.” said the Lord
“For I have not commanded you
to sing”.
“And with your devotion I am
well pleased “said the Lord.
The little bird was so excited he
couldn’t stop flying.
“Imagine that, that my songs
please the Lord!”.
Said the little songbird.
Now in the garden the other birds
looked on.
They were amazed that the Lord
talked with the little songbird.
And that the Lord himself was
pleased with the songbird’s singing.
And in their desire to also
please the Lord, all the birds began singing.
And from that day on, the first
thing everyday.
All the birds lift their voices
to the Lord.
For they too, wanted to please
Him.
And they all lift up their voices
to the Lord and give Him praise.
Now dear child, learn a lesson.
Learn a lesson from a little
songbird.
Lift up your voice unto the Lord.
For He is wonderful and He will
be glad.
